What is creamy and delicious and healthy in between??? It might be an Acai Bowl dressed in all of your favorite toppings!
I had the pleasure of speaking with Billy Loesch, the owner of Baya Bar, in Brooklyn and Staten Island. They have four Baya Bar locations and a fifth opening soon. As you can see up and down the Jersey Shore, the trend of Acai bowls is booming. They are not only delicious, they are rich in vitamins A & C and antioxidants, they can help prevent heart disease, stroke, lower blood pressure, fight cholesterol, help weight loss, and even helps prevent certain types of cancer. You can't beat a meal that is delicious and equally good for your health!
Loesch has an interesting story. He started out as a 'Wall Street' guy who decided he wanted to go into business for himself. He explains, "I wanted an opportunity to express my creativity. I did so by building a store and a product that people would get excited about. We saw the Acai bowl craze was growing very rapidly, and there weren't any in Brooklyn or Staten Island. I saw potential in an untapped market and went for it."
In today's quick-paced society, people want to eat on the go but also maintain a healthy lifestyle. Acai is one of those very beneficial whole foods that are delicious AND healthy, so it has become very popular. Loesch describes his lucrative business, "Combine the healthiness with the beauty of the bowls, and you have a product that is very popular to eat and post on social media. Because of the increasing popularity, acai bowl shops have started popping up everywhere."
As a Jersey girl, I am used to visiting the Playa and Frutta Bowl shops, but Baya Bowls sets themselves apart. If you notice, their bowl sizes are much larger than their competition. Loesch prides himself on the fact that, "We offer a premium product that is larger in size, but the same price as competing brands. Another separating factor is the quality of our ingredients. Our juices and milks are all 100% organic."
The next time you pay a visit, do not leave without trying the 'Bella Nutella'. This is their best-selling acai bowl and it’s topped with granola, strawberry, banana, coconut flakes & nutella. I am drooling just thinking about it!
For more information, check out their website at www.thebayabar.com and enjoy a delicious and nutritious snack at any of their four locations.
